About dave.md
dave.md seeks to increase the knowledge and understanding of the inter-relationships between diabetes and cardiovascular disease within the scientific and medical communities.
It is our goal to provide users with access to credible, concise, cutting-edge information in a user-friendly online environment.
The management of diabetes is a global concern. Few disease states are as common as or have the health implications of diabetes. Although diabetes is a disorder of the
"insulin-glucose axis," the major pathobiology occurs in the vascular system. It is quite clear in the modern era of medical treatment that the primary cause of mortality
and major morbidity in the diabetic patient is directly attributable to both macro and microvascular complications. In fact, 70 percent of all case-fatalities among diabetic
patients are a net result of a cardiovascular complication.
Additionally, the world population of people affected with type 2 diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate. It is projected that 300 million people will
have diabetes worldwide by 2025. Although initially thought to be a disease of developed nations, the vast majority of new cases over the next 20 years will be in developing
countries. Given the financial burden and the requisite clinical infrastructure needed to care for these high-risk individuals, major efforts will be required to deliver adequate
care to the world population.
As the link between diabetes and cardiovascular disease grows, health care providers must be kept up-to-date on the latest disease management strategies.
dave.md was designed with this in mind. Our global Editorial Board is comprised of individuals with an international reputation for leadership in the field of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
dave.md is managed by DiaVed, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Kansas City, Missouri, specializing in diabetes and vascular educational resources for physicians and scientists.
